There was speculation that only around 50 were ever made but given the amount I have seen sold over the years I suspect that number is somewhat higher.. 5. Mann_Aus_Sydney • 2 yr. ago. I got this 1967 pressing of sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band record today. The sleeve has seen better days. But the record itself still plays surprisingly well. On the back it says that "a splendid time is guaranteed for all" I definitely agree because sgt pepper's is such a great record. To use Sgt. Peppers as an example, for a US release with SMAS 2653 as the catalog number, the first press will have the black Capitol label with the rainbow perimeter. It was repressed by Apple in 1971, so those reissues have the Apple label. There are other Capitol reissues, one with a green label, one with a purple label, etc. It could indeed be a very "early" 3rd or 4th pressing, for example, as denoted by the stamper matrix numbers, but it certainly won't be a first pressing. The best place to start is with what is generally considered to be the Holy Grail of Beatles vinyl: The first album Please Please Me with the Black & Gold Parlophone label in Stereo. In mint NOTE: This is not to be confused with the 1995 Reissue of Sgt Pepper. This version has a purple label, Capitol Logo at top, but no Parlophone or Apple Records on the label. Has the same catalog # as the CD (#46442), the first time this album was issued a new catalog # in the US. music nerd, record collector 7 y. Value of mint condition first pressing of Sgt. Pepper? I have a mint condition first pressing (I think) copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Vinyl is shiny and plays flawlessly, jacket is shiny with few indentations, and insert looks like new. Any idea how much it might be worth. Should be, since most of the Beatles stereo LPs with the "one-box" EMI/Parlophone label use stampers made from the first (tube/valve) cutting (should have "-1" suffixes, or whichever number that was used for the first released pressings, on their matrices) and also use relatively thick vinyl (the "one-box" label predates the Arab oil embargo). THE BEATLES Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Without doubt the rarest 'commercial' release of Sgt. Pepper is this Australian-only Audiophile LP pressing. Finally released in July 1983, EMI made just 497 copies available to the public before scrapping the entire project. .
